Welcome to the World of Soumyajit

I’m a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at Vanderbilt University, where I work with Dr. Bobby Bodenheimer to study how people perceive space, navigate, and collaborate in immersive environments. My master’s research at the University of Iowa, supervised by Dr. Joe Kearney, involved rendering motion-tracked self-avatars for pedestrians and drivers and connecting pedestrian and driving simulators to study road-crossing interactions. I enjoy developing VR/AR systems to understand how people perceive their surroundings and using those insights to improve immersive technology. I also enjoy teaching students how to develop XR applications. During my internship at Nokia Bell Labs, I worked with Dr. Vasu Vasudevan on a prototype for predictive teleoperation. Over the years, I’ve reviewed research papers for IEEE TVCG, IJHCI, CHBR, ACM CHI, IEEE VR, IEEE ISMAR, and IEEE Telepresence, and served on the international program committees for IEEE VR 2026 and IEEE ISMAR 2026.
